Cross-contamination
It is cross-contamination that spreads
bacteria from one food product to another, especially in raw meat,
poultry, and seafood. Keep these foods and their juices away from
cooked or ready-to-eat products.
Separate raw meat, poultry, and
seafood from other food in your shopping cart and in the refrigerator.
Store
raw meat, poultry, and seafood on
the bottom shelf of the refrigerator so that their juices don't
drip onto other foods.
Wash hands in hot soapy water
after handling raw meats.
Use one cutting board/chopping
surface for raw meat, and another for salads and other foods which
are already cooked.
Never put cooked food on the same plate that previously held raw
meat, poultry, or seafood.
